I was first drawn to DEXCORE when I heard their single "BLACK PIG" back in 2018. With such a groovy deathcore sound, I was surprised when I found out that they were a visual kei band! I checked out their other singles, and while many of their tracks contain elements more common for a heavy visual kei band, I was really intrigued by Kagami's screaming techniques and the band's powerful breakdowns, especially on "Brainwashing".

But then they released "Cibus" featuring Ryo from Crystal Lake. Oh!!!!! Okay! Not only is this band taking influence from standard deathcore and mixing it with aspects of visual kei music, they are featuring one of Japan's most brutal vocalists who is, notably, not in a visual kei band.

Needless to say, when I heard DEXCORE was releasing their first album, [METEMPSYCHOSIS.], I had to buy it. Actually, this was the first new visual kei album I've bought in maybe ten years. I'm glad I can support them though! 

The album itself is really heavy, but it's littered with a few mellow parts especially in the tracks "BREATH", “Needle in the dust”, and “Visitor”. To be honest, I much prefer their heavy side. It’s what makes them unique in the swamp of indistinguishable visual kei bands. Super aggressive tracks like “DRAGOUT.”, “Collapse”, “U.N.Know”, Demise, and“Cibus” really stand out for me. 

This being their first album, I am excited to see where they go from here, especially if they can continue to incorporate more nonvisual kei elements. I don't mean to say that these elements of visual kei are bad, but I like to see innovation. Inviting Ryo to feature was brilliant!

Someday I'd love to see a festival with all sorts of heavy bands. Imagine a lineup of DEXCORE, Crystal Lake, Dir en grey, Her Name In Blood, A Crowd of Rebellion, Deviloof, Coldrain, lynch, etc. We've seen a few instances at LUNATIC.Fest or SiM's DEAD POP FESTiVAL, but those were mostly by chance. If this really became a reality, I might just die of happiness.

DEXCOREに惹かれたのは2018年、彼らのシングル「BLACK PIG」を聞いた時でした。グルーヴィーなデスコアサウンドであるにも関わらず、ヴィジュアル系バンドだと知ったときは驚きました。 DEXCOREの多くの曲がヴィジュアル系バンドにありがちな要素を含んでいますが、特に「Brainwashing」での架神さんの絶叫テクニックとバンドのパワフルなブレイクダウンにはとても興味をそそられました。  

そして、Crystal LakeのRyoをフィーチャーした「Cibus」リリースを受け、「あ!!!!! これはやばい！」と感じました。このバンドは標準的なデスコアから影響を受けているだけでなく、ヴィジュアル系の側面も取り入れ、かつ日本で最も激しい(ヴィジュアル系ではない)ヴォーカリストの一人をフィーチャーしています。

言うまでもなく、DEXCOREの1stアルバム「METEMPSYCHOSIS.」が発売されると聞いて、買わずにはいられなかったです。実は10年ぶりくらいに買ったヴィジュアル系のアルバムだったんですが、こういう形でバンドをサポートできるのは嬉しいですね。

アルバム自体はかなりヘビーな仕上がりなのですが、「BREATH」や「Needle in the dust」、「Visitor」などのメロウな部分が散りばめられています。正直言って、僕は激しい部分の方がずっと好きです。それが彼らを、見分けのつかないヴィジュアル系バンドの沼地で唯一無二の存在にしているのかもしれませんね。「DRAGOUT.」、「Collapse」、「U.N.Know」、「Demise」、「Cibus」などの超攻撃的な曲が、僕には際立って感じられました。

今回のアルバムはファースト・アルバムなので、今後の展開が楽しみです。ヴィジュアル系の要素が悪いと言っているわけではありませんが、僕はもっと革新的なものを見たいと思っています。Ryoさんとのコラボは本当に見事でした！

いつかいろんな種類のヘビーバンドが参加するフェスを見てみたいです。DEXCORE、Crystal Lake、Dir en grey、Her Name In Blood、A Crowd of Rebellion、Deviloof、Coldrain、lynchなど。LUNATIC.FestやSiMのDEAD POP FESTiVALでは、このような要素が少しありましが、ほとんどは偶然の産物でした。これが現実で実現したら、僕は幸せすぎて死んでしまうかもしれない。
